Pune: Investigations into the mysterious death of a one-month old baby girl revealed that the mother herself had drowned the baby in a water tank near her home. The incident took place at Chandan Nagar area in Malegaon of Baramati tehsil.
Police have arrested Deepali Sanjay Zagade, mother of the child, on charges of murder. The deceased baby was her third child. She told police during questioning that she did the act out of rage as she wanted a boy after giving birth to two girls.
According to police, Deepali had reported that someone had kidnapped her child and thrown it into the water tank near her house while she was asleep. However, police officials were suspicious of the story she was putting out. Police were curious about who would possibly take away a one-month old child away from her mother and hence their investigation was focussed on Deepali. Police were sure that no one could take away the child from the mother’s comfort without raising an alarm.
Since Deepali was admitted in the hospital after the incident, police had to wait for questioning her. After the interrogation, Deepali confided that she had drowned the baby herself in the water tank. Deepali confessed that she killed her third girl child as she wanted a son.
