Pune: City police took action against 65 thousand citizens in this month who were found not wearing a mask in public places. Police have also collected a fine of amount Rs 3.10 crore from these citizens.
The Covid-19 outbreak in the city is still not coming under control. The daily number of coronavirus infection cases is rising. The number of critical patients is also not coming down. Even though the situation is spiraling out of control, common public seems to be not concerned about it. The casual approach and attitude of citizens is also a major cause of rising number of Covid-19 cases in the city.
In the first week of September, between September 2 and 4, Pune police took action against 5204 citizens. Up to September 10, Pune police intensified their drive. A total of 28 thousand citizens were fined by the police. Pune police collected a total fine of Rs 1.40 crore from these violators.
From September 11 to 22, Pune police took action against 37558 citizens for not wearing mask in public places. From September 2 till 22, a total of 65 thousand citizens were fined by the police. A total fine amount of Rs 3.10 crore has been collected from them so far.
Meanwhile, Pune city recorded 1637 fresh cases of Covid-19 on Saturday alone. The total number of active cases in the city is now 17679. Out of these, total critical patients are 932. Of these critical patients, 514 are on ventilator support. The total number of patients on oxygen support is 3505.
More than 5500 Covid tests were conducted in the city on Saturday. Pune Municipal Corporation claims to conduct the highest number of tests in the country. The total number of patients who were diagnosed as Covid-19 positive is now 140588. Out of these a total of 119577 patients have recovered and discharged so far. Total 3332 patients have died in the city due to Covid-19 since the outbreak started.
