Pune: Three Aundh residents drown at Anjarle beach in Dapoli at Ratnagiri

Pune: Three residents from the Aundh area of the city died of drowning at the Anjarle beach in Dapoli of Ratnagiri district. Another three tourists were saved by locals. The incident took place on Friday morning 11.30am.

The deceased have been identified as Akshay Rakhelkar (35), Vikas Shrivastava (25) and Manoj Gawane (24).

According to police, a group from Pune consisting of Nihal Chavan, Akshay Rakhelkar, Ubes Khan, Rohit Palande, Vikas Shrivastava, Manoj Gawande and 14 others had gone to the Anjarle beach in Ratnagiri for vacation. They entered the water while playing at the beach. Six of them got carried away due to the strong water current.

Some locals at the Anjarle beach saw these six tourists getting carried away deep inside the water. Local citizens managed to rescue three of them however, three persons could not be saved.

Meanwhile, Dapoli police were informed about the incident. A search operation was launched to find the three persons. Their dead bodies were recovered after a while. The rescued tourists have been admitted to a hospital for further treatment.
