Pune brace for power cuts

Pune: If you are planning to work on something important this weekend or planning any program or get together, be prepared for unscheduled power cuts in the city on the weekends. The Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company (MahaTransco – MahaPareshan) is undertaking maintenance work at its Rasta Peth Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) and hence it will have an impact on the power supply of the entire city. As a result, there may be unscheduled power cuts in the city on Saturday (December 26) and Sunday (December 27).

Maintenance work schedule: Saturday (December 26) 8am to Sunday (December 27) 8pm

Areas likely to be affected: Central, Peth areas of Pune; South and Eastern Pune

The maintenance work in the Rasta Peth GIS 132 kV High Voltage Substation will be carried out from 8am on Saturday till 8pm on Sunday. This is a pre-scheduled maintenance work. Hence, the power supply from 6 substations of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) will be shut down for 36 hours continuously.

MSEDCL substations power shut down: Rasta Peth, Padmavati and Parvati

Areas affected: Kasba Peth, Somwar Peth, Mangalwar Peth, Raviwar Peth, Budhwar Peth, Rasta Peth, Bhavani Peth, Nana Peth, Old Modikhana, Camp, Gultekdi, Ganj Peth, Salisbury Park, Ghorpade Peth, Dias Plot, Lohiyanagar, Hyde Park, Maharshinagar, Mukundnagar

The MSEDCL has planned to regulate the power supply in the city through an alternative arrangement. It will need to manage a load of 60 to 65 Megawatt. Since it is winter and also citizens have moved out of the city for holiday, the power demand is less. Still, if the power demand increases suddenly, or if there is any fault in the alternative power supply line, then the central parts of the city may have to face power cuts for two to three hours.

Chief Engineer Sachin Talewar has reviewed the situation and has instructed officials to take efforts on war footing to maintain regular power supply in the city.
