Pune: Hotel owner uses ‘walky-talky’ to sell liquor in Manchar, 3 booked

Pune: Rural police booked three suspects including a hotel owner who were found using wireless devices ‘walky talky’ to sell country-made and foreign liquor to customers. The action was taken at Bhavadi village in Ambegaon tehsil of Pune district under the jurisdiction of Manchar police station. Police have seized two wireless devices and liquor worth Rs 1.70 lakh.

The suspects have been identified as Nilesh Baban Kale, Santosh Baban Kale and Neeta Nilesh Kale, all three residents of Bhavadi village in Ambegaon. Of the three, Nilesh is owner of the hotel named Manoranjan located at Bhavadi village. Padmakar Ghanvat, Police Inspector of Local Crime Branch of Pune Rural police led the team of police personnel which raided the hotel on Friday (October 9). The suspects revealed during their interrogation that they used the walky-talky sets to avoid police surveillance during the liquor trade.

The Pune Rural police has started taking action against illegal liquor sale and betting rackets operating from the rural areas of Pune district. Dr Abhinav Deshmukh, Superintended of Police (Pune Rural) has ordered his staff to take stern action against the concerned offenders. Dr Deshmukh has asked the Local Crime Branch to take initiative in this regard and bring down the illegal activities in the district.

Assistant Police Inspector Ravindra Manjare from the Local Crime Branch of Pune Rural Police department received a tip off on Friday while patrolling the jurisdiction of Manchar police station. He received information about some people using wireless devices inside Hotel Manoranjan situated at Bhavadi village. The informant shared additional information that the suspects were using these devices to sell liquor to customers. Based on this information, API Manjare and Krushnadev Kharade, Police Inspector of Manchar Police Station raided the hotel Manoranjan. They seized the two wireless devices and liquor worth Rs 1.70 lakh. Manchar police are probing the case further.
