Pune Police Crime Branch DCP Bachchan Singh turns real life hero; Here’s how he saved a girl’s life by preventing a suicide

Pune: Not all heroes wear a cape they say! It’s true, but some do wear the police uniform. IPS officer Bachchan Singh who is presently posted as the Deputy Commissioner of Police of the Crime Branch of Pune Police turned a real-life hero when he saved a 30-year-old girl’s life by preventing a suicide. Here’s how things unfolded!

DCP Bachchan Singh was carrying out his routine work on Monday (January 18) when he came across a post on Facebook social networking site. The post was written by a girl who was mentally depressed. The girl had written that she had failed to achieve her goals in life and she did not even have job. The girl had further written that she would end her life and had apologised to her parents.

DCP Bachchan Singh realised the seriousness of the case and immediately asked the Women Assistance Cell of BHAROSA department of Pune police to look into the matter. He also got the mobile number and address of the girl with the help of technical analysis.

DCP Bachchan Singh shared the information with Police Inspector Sujata Shanme of the Cell and instructed them to find out the girl. The girl’s location was traced within the jurisdiction of Kothrud-Alankar police station and hence ‘Damini Squad’ Marshall Vandana Raskar was informed to reach out to the girl.

Meanwhile, Inspector Shanme located the girl’s house and identity of family members. Inspector Shanme along with Raskar went to the address and informed the girl’s parents about the post. The parents were shocked to know about this from the cops.

Inspector Shanme then tried to call the girl on her mobile, but the device was switched off. Cops then contacted friends and relatives of the girl. The girl’s whereabouts were traced near a mall in the evening with the help of information provided by her friend.

Police managed to reach the girl within three to four hours. They counselled the girl and prevented her from taking any extreme step. The girl was handed over to her family members who later thanked the Pune police team and DCP Bachchan Singh for their prompt response.

The girl and her family are originally from Mumbai and had shifted to Pune a few years back. The girl had lost her job during the lockdown. The girl was staying with her father at a rented apartment in Kothrud.
