US OPEN 2020 : Novak Djokovic Disqualified From Tournament After Hitting A Woman With Ball

New York : Novak Djokovic, the world’s number one tennis player, was disqualified from the tournament after hitting a female official with the ball in the pre-quarterfinals of the US Open on Sunday. The American Tennis Association (USTA) issued a statement confirming this. The statement said that according to the rules of the Grand Slam, if a player injures an official or spectator, he is consequently disqualified along with a fine and the match referee also found Novak Djokovic guilty.

According to the rule, the prize money to Djokovic will be deducted when the tournament reaches the pre-quarter match. Also, the ranking points a player gets will also be reduced. In fact, Djokovic lost 5-6 in the first set in a pre-quarterfinal match against Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta. At that time, a shot of his went directly to the neck of the female officer, due to which she complained of breathing for some time.

However, Djokovic went to the woman to check on her. After this, the umpire, after negotiating with the tournament referee, declared Carerno Busta to win the match. Serbia player Djokovic becomes the third player to be eliminated from Grand Slam history. Prior to this, John McEnroe was disqualified from the Australian Open in 1990 and Stephen Kobek at the French Open in 2000.
