New Delhi : Six states have challenged the NEET and JEE examination in the Supreme Court. Earlier, the Supreme Court gave permission to the Central Government to hold the examination. Six states filed a review petition on that order. Earlier, several opposition leaders, including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and DMK President MK Stalin, demanded to postpone these examinations for the time being.

Ministers of the governments of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Punjab and Rajasthan have filed a review petition in the Supreme Court demanding that the NEET and JEE exam be deferred. The special thing is that all the ministers have filed this petition together in their personal capacity. In the petition, it is said that due to Corona, the government is not in a position to conduct the examination. During the exam, students may get corona infection and it can also spread.
NEET exam is on 13 September while JEE exam is to be held between 1 to 9 September. Earlier, the Supreme Court gave the green signal to the Central Government to conduct the examination. Now in the petition filed, the Supreme Court has been asked to reconsider its decision. Among those filing the petition are Minister Moloy Ghatak in West Bengal, Rameshwar Oraon – Minister in Jharkhand, Raghu Sharma from Rajasthan, Amarjit Bhagat from Chhattisgarh, Balbir Singh Sidhu from Punjab and Maharashtra Minister Uday Ravindra Samant.
Recently, the Supreme Court rejected the petition to postpone the JEE Mains and NEET examinations and said that the precious academic year of the students cannot be wasted. Congress and some opposition parties demanded that the examination should be postponed in view of the COVID-19 outbreak and the flood situation in some states. At the same time, the government has clarified that the examination will be conducted according to the prescribed schedule, taking appropriate precautions. These examinations have already been postponed twice due to Coronavirus. The JEE Mains exam was originally scheduled to be held on April 7-11 but it was postponed to July 18-23. The NEET exam was originally scheduled to be held on May 3, but it was later postponed to July 26. These examinations have been postponed once again and will be held in September according to the supreme court verdict.
