Commissioner Amitabh Gupta on increasing crime said, no point in talking , it has to be done

“There is no point in speaking, it has to be done”, said Pune Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta while speaking to the media in regards to killings that took place in the last eight days. He has also assured of a fear free atmosphere in Pune while maintaining law and order in the city.

 

 

After assuming office, Commissioner Amitabh Gupta in a conference said, “Work would be done on basic crime. It will be done to reduce crime. It will also create a fear-free environment for women in the city, They will be able to move around at night without any worries”. Further he added, “Even serious crimes will be taken as a challenge. We will continue to work in such a way that crime will be curbed right from the roots. A crime is committed; it will be solved immediately on fast-track. Crime Branch teams have been notified. The emphasis will be on basic policing”.

In the last two months in the city, 260 criminals were released on bail in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. The city is witnessing an increase in crime, runaway criminals and unemployment.

Commissioner Amitabh Gupta took charge of Pune City Police in the mid-September. He is an IIT graduate and 1992-batch IPS officer. Earlier, he was posted as Principal Secretary (Special), Home Department, Mumbai.

Pune due to coronavirus witness declined in crime rate but cybercrime has increased viciously. The report further stated that the overall crime rate in the state increased by 1.7% in Pune. As per the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report for 2019, released on Wednesday, the Pune police registered 309 cases in 2019 — a 102% increase over the 153 cases registered in 2018.
