Islamabad : Pakistan has rejected any option to change its local law on the issue of India’s demand to appoint an Indian lawyer for the Kulbhushan Jadhav case. According to Pakistani media, Pakistan has made it clear that it is not going to change its local law in this matter.
In fact, for Kulbhushan Jadhav, an Indian citizen jailed in Pakistan, the Islamabad High Court gave India a second chance to appoint an advocate for Kulbhushan. Islamabad High Court has fixed October 6 for hearing, giving India another chance.
Even earlier, Pakistan rejected the demand to appoint an Indian lawyer. Pakistan Foreign Office spokesman Zahid Hafeez Chaudhary said, “It is not legally possible to allow an Indian lawyer to represent Kulbhushan Jadhav, an Indian prisoner in the court of this country.”

He had said that the Indian side is making inconsistent demands to allow an Indian lawyer to represent Jadhav. We have repeatedly told them that only those lawyers can represent Jadhav in the court, who has a license to advocate in Pakistan.
Pakistan has been falsely claiming that Jadhav was arrested in 2016 from Balochistan on charges of espionage, while India has rejected this claims of Pakistan. India has been saying before and even today that Jadhav was abducted from the Iranian port of Chabahar. In early 2017, a Pakistani military court sentenced him to death. In May 2017, his hanging was stayed by the International Court of Justice. Subsequently, in July last year, by a 15-1 vote, the ICJ upheld India’s claim that Pakistan had violated the rules of the Vienna Convention on Counselor Relations in several cases.
