Not COVISHIELD, but Rotavirus vaccine manufacturing site got affected in fire at Serum Institute

Pune: It’s been a few hours since the massive fire was reported at one of the units of Serum Institute of India at Manjari, but one question that has been answered, yet not convincingly, was about the impact of this incident on the production of COVISHIELD vaccine for COVID19 disease.

The state government and Serum Institute itself has clarified that the COVISHIELD vaccine production was faraway from the site where the fire was reported. Now it has been revealed that the site where fire broke out, was a proposed site of manufacturing of Rotavirus vaccine.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said, “The fire brigade has done good work. As per my information, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will also visit the site tomorrow. The place where COVISHIELD vaccine is manufactured was not affected. I was informed that preparation was going on at the building (site of fire) to make Rotavirus vaccine.”

“Our government is trying its best to gather more information. Energy Audit teams have been instructed to conduct fire audit, they will do it tomorrow,” he added.
