Pune: Police warn of strangers using COVID-19 survey as pretext to enter your home

Pune: Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta has warned Punekars that some suspects are using COVID-19 survey as a pretext to enter homes of common citizens to carry out certain crimes. These suspects pretend to be government officers and ask citizens to furnish all details. These details later can be misused for unlawful activities. Hence citizens should try to verify the identity of any such person approaching for the home survey of COVID-19. In case of suspicion should contact police immediately, Gupta has appealed.

Pune Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta is visiting all police stations under the jurisdiction of Pune Police Commissionerate. Gupta has recently taken charge as the head of the city police department. CP Gupta is also interacting with senior police officials and other personnel through video conferencing. Along with COVID-19 management and situation, Commissioner Gupta is also taking a review of the crime graph in the city.

Pune Commissioner Amitabh Gupta is visiting all police stations and supporting all police personnel in these stressful times of the Covid-19 outbreak. He said, “The COVID-19 spread is increasing in the city. We have received certain complaints about some suspects approaching common citizens under the pretext of carrying out home survey of COVID-19. Citizens should take precautions while dealing with such persons. If any person tries to enter the house, citizens should demand for their identity proof first. If the concerned person does not furnish identity proof and if his or her activities seem suspicious, then citizens should immediately contact the police control room.”

Commissioner Gupta also emphasized that the Pune Police department will focus on ‘basic policing’. Serious crimes and criminals will be under watch of the police department. The Pune police department will ensure that women, senior citizens will feel safe in the city during night hours, CP Gupta has assured.
