Pune: Swimming pools open up for professionals, Know what are guidelines and SOPs

Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation has given permission for reopening of swimming pools in the city. However, as of now this permission has been granted for professionals only. No swimming tournaments will be allowed inside the city limits as of now. The management of these pools will have to follow strict standard operating procedures (SOPs) and guidelines that have been issued by the ministry of youth affairs and sports, governments of India.

Use of Arogya Setu App is compulsory if a swimmer has to enter the pool premises. Other instructions like filtering of water before and after use should be followed by the management. The swimmers have been advised to maintain distance while swimming and avoiding contact with other swimmers.

Narendra Acharekar, coach, Harmony Aquatic Club, Kothrud said, “We may start on Monday, as two-three days will be required to fix everything. Although pools were closed, maintenance activity continued during the lockdown as well.”
“Getting back to the pool for regular practice is on the mind of every swimmer and it is good the PMC has now given permission,” Sadhvi Dhuri, who won five gold medals and one silver at the Khelo India University Games in February, said.
The pools in the other parts of the state have already resumed services from November 5 onwards.
Standard operating procedure (SOP) for swimming pools in Pune city:

* Swimming pool operators should have a dedicated officer responsible for Covid-19 consideration

* The officer will make sure that they are following all central or local government guidelines
* A pool of 50 metres with 10 lanes can have a maximum 20 persons per batch.
* Maintain chlorine level in the water at 2.0PPM, along with 7 to 7.40pH of water.
* No swimming tournaments will however be allowed inside the city limits
