Mumbai : Underworld don Dawood Ibrahim’s properties are being auctioned once again. This time the list includes an asset that has an emotional attachment with Dawood, where Dawood spent his boyhood. This property is his ancestral Haveli in Mumka village of Ratnagiri. Two Delhi lawyers are bidding to get this Haveli.

Today, this mansion has turned into a ruin but Dawood Ibrahim’s family used to live in it till about four decades ago. When Dawood’s father Ibrahim Kaskar got a job in Mumbai Police, he settled with his family in Mumbai’s Pakmodia Street. Dawood also moved to Mumbai due to this and there he got into the crime world.

For many years, one of Dawood’s four sisters lived here even after the rest of the family moved to Mumbai. The mansion has been deserted since her death and has now turned into a scary ruin. The finance ministry of the central government confiscated several properties of Dawood after he was declared a fugitive on charges of smuggling, one of which is this Haveli.

On November 10, under the SAFEMA Act, about one and a half dozen properties of Dawood Ibrahim and smuggler Iqbal Mirchi are to be auctioned. One of the biggest properties among them is this Haveli. The reserve price of this Haveli spread over 27 Guntha land has been kept at Rs 535800. The bidders will have to give a statement of Rs 135000.

Delhi lawyer and former Shiv Sainik Ajay Srivastava reached Dawood’s village Mumbai to check this. Ajay Srivastava is the same lawyer who had many years ago demonstrated against Pakistan. In 2001, when Dawood’s properties were auctioned, he bought two of Dawood’s shops in Nagpada area of Mumbai.

Ajay Srivastava says that he made a bid on Dawood’s property so that the message can be sent among the people that he is a fugitive and there is no need to fear him. He said that if he won the auction, he will demolish this Haveli and make it a center of eternal education.

Apart from Ajay Srivastava, another Delhi-based lawyer, Bhupendra Bhardwaj, is also showing interest in Dawood’s Haveli. He too reached the village to inspect the Haveli. Bhardwaj said that he will also bid on Haveli and Dawood’s other properties. If he wins the bid for this Haveli, he will open the office of an organization fighting against terrorism here.
