Mumbai: Currently, in India two things are trending one is violence against women and another is cricket. This time both have come together. This time the victim of this was MS Dhoni’s daughter Ziva Dhoni who received rape threats from Instagram users on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) poor performance against Kolkata Knight Riders match on Wednesday. This has once again shown the toxic misogyny among men.
Once again Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav were trolled on social media after CSK failed to chase down the target of 168 set by KKR at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium.
This was brought to light by twitter users by posting screenshots and reacted to the horrendous comments. A Twitter user wrote, “Just saw that Dhoni’s 6-year-old daughter Ziva is getting rape and death threats because he didn’t play well in IPL2020. Do people realize what s***hole we have become? Can you even imagine where we are heading as a country? Morally dead and decayed nation!”

This is not the first time when a cricketer’s family has been trolled, especially the females who are wives and girlfriends. This reaction is a common reaction from fans when any team loses a match but now the hate seems to be spreading to children and minors. For instance, Anushka Sharma- Indian captain Virat Kohli’s wife and Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma has been at the receiving end on numerous occasions.
The rape threats have become a trend for people in India. People more often tend to give such threats when there is a lot of disappointment or disagreement with their opinions. Earlier, a female comedian Agrima Joshua was also given rape threats for a 5 minute gig. What is shocking here, a 6 year old girl who has no idea what world is about been given rape threat. This is where misogyny prevails in india.
