Pune: Genderqueers force motorists to pay money at signal; police initiate action

Pune: Citizens have raised several complaints about genderqueers forcing motorists to pay money while they stop at the junctions when the traffic signal turns red. After receiving these complaints, Pune Police acted against 13 such people in different areas of the city.

Motorists were being harassed and forced to pay money by the genderqueers at various junctions, especially in the suburbs of the city. Major junctions on Pune-Solapur road, Satara Road, Mumbai-Pune road were witnessing such incidents.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Bachchan Singh received complaints regarding this after which he instructed the Social Security Cell of the Crime Branch to act as per law.

Police Inspector Anagha Deshpande of the Social Security Cell initiated action against the suspects.

The Social Security Cell took action against three suspects at Sadalbaba Chowk in Yerawada, three at Loni Toll Plaza in Hadapsar, two in Bundgarden area, three in Saras Baug chowk and two at Karishma Society junction on Paud Road. The action was taken in accordance with the Maharashtra Prevention of Begging Act, 1960.
