Pune: With rising number of Covid-19 cases in Pune, Mumbai and most parts of the state, there is a speculation of another lockdown in the offing. Most in the administration circles fear that post-Diwali, a second wave of Coronavirus infections will be occurring in metro cities and hence some precautionary measures will be taken by the authorities. On this backdrop, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has made a statement saying that the decision regarding lockdown will be taken in the next 10 to 15 days after reviewing the situation in the state.

“In order to decide the roadmap ahead in regards with the lockdown, the coming 8-10 days will be important,” Deputy CM Pawar said in Pune. Pawar was in Pune for the campaigning of Nationalist Congress Party candidates for the graduate constituency elections.

Ajit Pawar said, “There was a huge crowd during Diwali period. Even at the time of Ganesha Chaturthi, we saw crowds. We are speaking to relevant departments and deciding what needs to be done ahead.”

“It would not be appropriate to make a comment on lockdown decision at this decision. If I say something now then people will be more worried. Hence we will take a decision on the basis of increase in the number of cases and hospitalization required,” Pawar clarified.

Pawar has also instructed all district officials to take precautionary measures. Pawar has asked the officials to review situation regarding the availability of hospital beds and if needed restart some of the Covid Care Centres which were temporarily closed down recently.

Speaking about the Covid-19 vaccine, Pawar said, “We are reading news about the vaccine being ready in some days. While people are dying due to the virus infection, the vaccine has still not come out. So instead of relying on the vaccine news, people should take preventive and precautionary measures on their own.”
