Sales picked up in Auto Industry: Maruti- Hyundai sales increase by 20%

New Delhi : After unlock process started, the auto industry is seeing slight growth in vehicles sales. According to data released on Tuesday, domestic sales of Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) grew by 20.2 percent to 1,16,704 units. In August 2019, it sold 97,061 vehicles in the domestic market.

The company’s total sales during the month increased by 17.1 per cent to 1,24,624 units. Sales of Alto and WagonR- the mini cars increased by 94.7 per cent to 19,709 units. On the other hand, Hyundai’s domestic sales also grew by 19.9 percent to 45,809 units. However, total sales declined 6.06 per cent to 52,609 units.

MG Motor: 41.2 percent increase in sales. MG Motor India retail sales grew 41.2 per cent to 2,851 units. A total of 2,018 vehicles were sold in the same month of 2019.

Decline of sales

Mahindra & Mahindra: Total sales fell 16 percent to 30,426 units in August. Domestic sales fell 13 percent.

Toyota: Sold a total of 5,555 vehicles, down 48.08 percent. The figure stood at 10,701 units in August 2019.

Royal Enfield: 50,144 motorcycles sold, down 5 percent.

Agricultural sector impact the growth in tractor sales. Tractor sales picked up in August. During this period, total sales of Escorts Agri Machinery increased by 80.1 percent to 7,268 units. Domestic sales also increased 79.4 percent to 6,750 units due to better monsoon and better sowing of kharif.

Mahindra & Mahindra’s total tractor sales grew 65 per cent to 24,458 units in the month under review, while domestic sales grew by 69 per cent.

30 percent decline in commercial vehicles as business activities were brought to stand still due to Corona also showed the negative effect on the sale of commercial vehicles.

According to VC Commercial Vehicle Limited, a unit of Eicher Motors, ‘ sales of commercial vehicles declined by 30 percent to 2,477 units in August. Domestic sales also declined by 30.3 percent. Ashok Leyland’s total sales fell 31 per cent to 6,325 units in August. Domestic sales have also fallen by 30 percent.
