ASEAN-India Hackathon-2021: DIAT MTech student wins runner-up prize of Rs 1.1 lakh

Pune : An MTech student pursuing cybersecurity from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), Pune, Madhu Raut, has won laurels for the country.

Raut was not only selected for the ASEAN- India Hackathon 2021 by successfully clearing technical test and interview conducted by Innovation Cell of Ministry of Education, but also won the runner-up prize of Rs 1.1 lakh in the grand finale. The event was held between February 1 and 3, while the results were declared on February 4.

Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ and Union Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar were present for the award ceremony of the event along with ministers and dignitaries from ASEAN countries.

Addressing the participants of Hackathon, Union Education Minister said, “I would like to first congratulate all, for successfully completing the first ASEAN-India Hackathon. I am very thankful to all ASEAN countries for participating in this first-of-its-kind initiative.”

“For the last three days, all 54 teams have worked really very hard on 11 problem statements and I was informed by juries and mentors that they are very happy with the quality of work done by participants during this Hackathon. The ASEAN – India Hackathon is well aligned with the vision of ASEAN – plan of action on science, technology and innovation (APASTI) 2016-2025,” Pokhriyal added.

Around 54 cross-country teams including 330 students and 90 mentors from 10 ASEAN countries and India participated in this hackathon. Each team consisted of six students and two mentors.

Raut was a team leader of a group of six students representing IIT Ropar, Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines.

On this occasion, Dr CP Ramanarayanan, Vice-Chancellor of DIAT, congratulated Raut on behalf of DIAT community on her well-deserved success.
