Kanpur: The SDM officer, Soumya Pandey during the coronavirus period was posted to Ghaziabad district. Saumya resumed her work within 14 days after delivery. However, she was transferred to Kanpur after joining office with a 22-day-old newborn daughter

Soumya Pandey, originally from Prayagraj, is a 2017 batch IAS officer, whose first appointment was to the post of Modinagar SDM in Ghaziabad.

Recently IAS Soumya Pandey gave birth to a new born baby girl. She returned back to work within 14 days after delivery despite government regulations of maternity leave for 6 months. But realizing her duty and her responsibility in the coronavirus period, she started coming to the office with her daughter only after 22 days.

Saumya says, “I am an IAS officer, so I have to take responsibility for everything. During COVID-19, it is the duty of all to do our respective work properly. I am doing the same thing. However, God has empowered women so much because of which she gives birth to a child and also raises her well after birth.

Further added, “The women of the village do all the household related work during pregnancy and also take care of the child after giving birth. Likewise, it is God’s blessing that I will be able to do administrative work with my three-week-old baby girl ”.

The pictures of Pandey with her baby girl in the office went viral on social media. She was appreciated by people for her savage move. National Women’s Commission President Rekha Sharma praised Soumya Pandey and said that such loyalty towards their duty should be maintained by everyone.

Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi asked Soumya to stay back home as it is risky to bring a newborn to the office. After the birth of the child, both the mother and the baby need rest. The woman should stop being a superwoman and focus on the child’s health.
