Pune: A woman from Wakad has been duped by unidentified suspects who contacted her on the pretext of buying her laptop after she had posted an advertisement on OLX platform. The suspects had asked the woman to scan a QR code after which they withdrew Rs 40 thousand from her account.

The woman, a resident of KDM Planet Society in Kalewadi has filed a complaint in this regard at Wakad police station. The incident took place on January 17 at around 12.50pm. The FIR has been registered on January 22 at around 23.15pm.

The suspects have been booked under section 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code and sections 66C (punishment for identity theft) and 66D (punishment for cheating by personation by using computer resource) of the Information Technology Act. The identity of the suspects has not been ascertained yet.

According to the complaint, the woman had posted an advertisement on OLX online platform for selling her old laptop. She received response from the suspects from two different numbers. The suspects asked her to scan a QR code after which an amount of Rs 40 thousand was withdrawn from her account.

When the woman realised that she has been cheated by the suspects, she approached the Wakad police and filed her complaint. Assistant Police Inspector Avinash Pawar is investigating the case.
